Date: 27/08/2026

"What is learned from books remains superficial; true understanding comes only through personal practice." — Lu You, Thoughts for My Son Ziyu While Reading on a Winter Night

Book knowledge, though valuable, only touches the surface; to truly grasp the reality of things, one must experience them firsthand. Our students studying Chinese History, History, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) recently participated in the "Sino-Japanese Resonance: Historical Culture and Modern Technology Tour," travelling to Nagasaki and Fukuoka for a five-day learning and exchange journey. Centred around historical and cultural inquiry, industrial technology, and peace education, the study tour allowed teachers and students to explore the historical relations between China and Japan as well as Japan’s modern technology from multiple perspectives.

Historical Footprints and Sino-Japanese Friendship

Reflecting on the past while visiting foreign lands, teachers and students toured historical sites such as Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty Memorial House and Tojin Yashiki Nagasaki. Reflecting deeply amidst historical turning points and memories of ancient trade, students gained insight into the meaning of peace and cooperation, realizing the precious value of good-neighbourly relations and people-to-people exchanges.

Peace Education and Historical Reflection

At the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park, students listened to firsthand accounts from Nagasaki atomic bomb survivors. Through historical records and personal testimonies, students deeply felt the cruelty of war and nuclear weapons. This sparked profound reflections on history, helping them understand the crucial importance of safeguarding world peace and regional stability.

Industrial Visits and Cultural Sightseeing

The itinerary also took students to the Yawata Steel Works and Takagi Co., Ltd. (water purification systems), where they witnessed the blast furnace steel-rolling process and appreciated the meticulous Japanese craftsmanship and quality control. Furthermore, visits to Mojiko Retro, Karato Market, and the night view of Nagasaki provided a comprehensive experience of Kyushu's historical charm. This enriching journey has expanded our students' historical perspectives, inspired their technological thinking, and instilled in them a lasting appreciation for friendship and peace.
